Aspire2lead: March Update

Aspire2lead is a project part-funded by the European Social Fund that supports women in employment and SMEs across the York and North Yorkshire LEP area.

So there is a light at the end of the tunnel! As we move forward with the year we have and will (hopefully) be continuing to emerge out of lockdown, and after a year of being shut inside we can finally spread our wings once more. Here in the aspire2lead team we are no exception. With our International Women’s Day campaign, TV interviews, strand spotlight social media campaign and video, this month has been an exciting one!

Lots of our participants have been steaming ahead with the programme whether that be in our Support Networks, with our delivery partners through the Entrepreneurship strand or Leadership strand.

At Yorkshire in Business the women entrepreneurs have been making the most out of lockdown and developing their skills online. One of their participants has been busy going headfirst into her own business. Throughout lockdown, she has absorbed knowledge like a sponge (call her SpongeBob), has been constantly learning all business aspects such as bookkeeping, marketing and finance through the programme. If you would like to read her full blog detailing her journey on ‘running’ her own business click here.

We have been also researching and designing our Returnships and Sponserships strands, sending surveys and finding out how best to work with SMEs to ensure real and resilient change. If you would like to be part of it and help our research click this link!

We have also got a great new addition to our team! Anj is the founder of Inspiring Women Changemakers, a charity Chair, and a university Governor. She is dedicated to supporting women at all levels of their careers throughout her work. Born and raised in Leeds, she has lived and worked abroad but returned to Yorkshire in 2003 where she loves nothing better than hiking in our beautiful Dales. A creative cook, plant mum and an affinity with wild birds, makes nature her go-to place. Her role as the trainer for the Aspiring Young Women and Women Returners strands of the aspire2lead programme is well suited to her 20 years of experience and specialisation of working with women in leadership for the last decade.

Our women’s support network has been off to a flying start over the last month! The Facebook page connecting women across the region is run by Ellie our Women’s Ambassadors Facilitator and Training Coordinator. Through the page, she has been creating virtual events, talks, training and updates. If you would like to get involved join the page now!
